ASF Super Smoothie

Smoothies are a weekly occurrence at our house. And why not? Fruit, grains, protein and greens all packed into one tasty treat- everyone agrees!

It’s important to get in your greens. To avoid packing them all in at one time, spacing them out is a great way to nutritionally enhance each meal and snack. So, I always add a little something to our smoothies. In addition, I like using frozen berries over fresh. It really thickens the smoothie up and you don’t have to add additional ice. I found a bag of frozen berries with frozen kale all mixed into one. I use it for all of our smoothies. The boys love it. In addition, I use plain Greek Yogurt for the boys (for protein) and either almond milk or orange juice (depending on what we have on hand) for the liquid. I generally do not like using protein powder with my little guys. Too much protein can cause a stomach ache and gastric problems, so I stick to 7-10 grams of protein (found in the yogurt). For my shake, I use whey protein- vanilla flavor. Lastly, I like to add in some whole grains, nuts and seeds to both smoothies for a great carbohydrate and some healthy fats. The “Love Grown” foods blend I use contains oats, chia seeds, almonds, quinoa, amaranth, pumpkin seeds and flaxseed. SO many tasty ingredients for mamas and kids (and dads)!

My smoothie:

1/3 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk

1/3-1/2 cup Frozen Fruit (Wyman’s brand found at Dillons in frozen fruit section)

1 Scoop Jamie Eason Lean Body For Her Whey Protein Powder- vanilla

1/4 Cup Super Oats (Chia & Quinoa nuts and seeds blend)

Dash of cinnamon

*Blend and Enjoy!

Little Boys Smoothie (I makeĀ one smoothie and split it between the two boys):

Dash of Cinnamon
